Favorite thing about working as a delivery driver: Being out in my own car and nightly cash.
We were thrilled to speak with Paul for an interview to hear his story firsthand. Here it is:
Biller & Kimble: How did you start working as a delivery driver?
Paul Mullins: It was a summer job after college. I started doing it full time when I moved to Phoenix. It turned out to be a great job to have when you want to move around the country a lot, which I did for a while. You get a job pretty fast in any city. You get to drive around and learn the area and get paid for it.
BK: What was your favorite delivery driver job or city?
PM: That is a tough one. I would say it is a tie between Domino’s Mira Mesa location in San Diego and Domino’sBranch Hill Guinea Pike location in Cincinnati.
BK: How did you learn you might not be reimbursed enough for your vehicle costs?
PM: I took a labor law class in college, so I suspected the reimbursement method used by most pizza companies was illegal. Biller & Kimble confirmed my suspicions. One of the best Google searches I have ever done gave me Biller & Kimble as a choice for a labor lawyer. Google hit the jackpot on this! I can’t imagine having had such a positive experience anywhere else!
BK: What advice do you have for other drivers?
PM: When you are handing a customer their receipt, the words you use matter. Do not say, “I need you to sign this.” Instead, say, “I need you to fill this out.” People follow instructions. If you tell them you need them to sign it, they are more likely to absentmindedly sign it and hand it back. If tell them you need them to fill it out, they are more likely pay attention to the spaces on the receipt, including the tip line.
